Symptom check-in

POTS:Late-afternoon energy dip with lightheadedness when standing - needed something quick with carbs and fat, but not heavy or hot

Vestibular migraine:Visual sensitivity and faint head pressure - avoiding caffeine, citrus, and strong contrasts in flavor

Lupus:Low-level fatigue, no joint pain today - wanted minimal prep and no inflammatory oils

Disorder safety check

Condition

Works?

Why

POTS

Yes, in small portions

Fast carbs help, but rice cakes alone aren’t enough without fat

Lupus

Yes

Simple ingredients, no frying, low effort

Vestibular migraine

Cautiously yes

No acid or spice, but chocolate can be a trigger for some

Note: if chocolate is a known migraine trigger for you, swap for tahini or almond butter only.

Ingredients (2 rice cakes)

  • 2 plain rice cakes

  • 2–3 tbsp chocolate tahini or chocolate nut butter

  • 1–2 fresh figs, thinly sliced

  • ½ tsp tahini (optional drizzle)

  • ½–1 tsp mixed seeds (sesame, hemp, or pumpkin)

  • Optional: pinch of flaky salt

How to make it

1. Prepare the base

  • Place rice cakes on a plate.

  • Spread 1–1½ tbsp chocolate tahini evenly on each rice cake.

  • Go all the way to the edges so each bite has fat (helps POTS energy dips).

2. Slice the figs

  • Rinse figs and pat dry.

  • Slice into ¼-inch rounds - thinner slices sit better on rice cakes.

  • Remove tough stem ends.

3. Assemble

  • Arrange fig slices evenly on top of the chocolate spread.

  • Drizzle lightly with ½ tsp tahini total if using.

  • Sprinkle seeds across both cakes.

  • Finish with a tiny pinch of flaky salt if desired.

4. Eat promptly

  • Rice cakes soften quickly once topped - best eaten within 10 minutes.

  • Pair with water or electrolyte drink if standing symptoms are present.

Notes for symptom days

  • If POTS symptoms are stronger: add a side of yogurt or a salty drink.

  • If migraine sensitivity increases: skip chocolate and use plain tahini + figs.

  • If lupus fatigue is high: this works well as a no-cook, low-effort snack.
